Why Tag + Tally?
A quick note about why I created this table top role playing game
I love Cypher, but I didn't like killing myself to use abilities. Granted 2 has changed some of that, but I don't like tracking things if I don't have to. Having to edit my character sheet a lot means a lot of erasing.
But the ease of creation of NPCs and creatures -- love it. Sentences to describe things. Love that even more.
I also love the Mist Engine that Son of Oak does for the City of Mist, Legends in the Mist and :Otherworld:. Tags are great for narrative, and that's what I wanted to do, I don't want number crunching I wanted ease of use.
And the final inspiration was Powered by the Apocolypse. A fail forward mechanic, but hooked into the level of the creature.
Thus Tag & Tally was born. But it wasn't born for the RPG player in me. No, it was born because I'm a writer. And my main character is a fantatical magical being who had 'god-like' powers when it came to his magic. There were no real rules to the system. So I started making them.
A rule system to describe what my character could do -- and what every other character in the world could do.
And I wanted everything in the game to be narrative. Very few tracking, but of that tracking I wanted it to be easy to track not so much about erasing constantly, so to the sentences, tags, and fail forward resolution I added tallies. Or clocks that track various things.
The game is not combat focused and the core rules actually don't include a combat mechanic, it's a foundational peice of the game, but it is not required to play it in the slightest.
The system is designed to be solo first, but you could easily run it with a co-op, or even with a gm. Very little is needed to change to make it work for anything else.
We are going to start this blog out with a series that explains the game, we'll talk about the core mechanics, and go through starting a solo campaign together. I'll work through every peice with you. If you have any questions or just wanna chat jump into the discord server and ask away.
